14-Day Journal Pages

In preparation for the 14-Day Walk with Christ, I am making these journals for everyone in my family.  They are pretty simple.  All you need is one of those cheep-o photo albums from the dollar store, a printer and a paper cutter.  (I noticed WalMart carries these.  However, they only hold 24 photos.  You will need one that holds at least 28 photos.  This one from the Dollar Tree has 48 pockets)

I have created a journal page for each of the 14 days.  On the left side of the journal will go the handout from each day’s lesson and on the right side will go the journal page.  Click HERE to download the journal pages.  There are 3 to a page.  You can download PDF versions or the actual Microsoft Office version – you can choose.   This is what they look like:

Here I have printed the journal pages and placed them in the photo album:

You will need 14 of these.  If you like, you can also leave some extra room for photos or other things you would like to add into the book.

A little Easter

I have a few little bunnies popping up all over my house!  I love springtime!!

I never know quite how do decorate “around the TV”.  There are not many choices – tall things on the side I guess!!
I found these brown bunnies at the thrift shop.  I gave ‘um a coat of Heirloom White spray paint.  Did I mention I love bunnies??

I found this silver tray at the Goodwill.  It was marked $29.99 – YIKES!!  But it was blue sticker half price day and this had a blue sticker!!  So I got it for $15!!  (It still seemed a little pricy for a thrift shop)

Painted Armoire

I bought this armoire on Craig’s List on Saturday.  I needed something for my 5 year old’s room – the mess is out of control in there!  I paid $125 for it – she originally wanted $200 so I felt like it was a pretty good deal.  (I am used to garage sale prices!!)  The armoire was from an antique store in Beverly Hills – sold!!

I got it home and immediately sanded it and painted it…in the dark!  I might be the world’s most impatient person!

By Monday morning 3 coats of paint had been applied.

I decided to distress it a touch.  I like the “shabby” feel of it.  I love the detail of the flowers – perfect for the princess Rapunzel room!!

When I was done with the distressing, I rubbed Minwax Finishing Paste on it – it’s my FAVORITE way to finish furniture.  I love the feel it gives it!

It is hard to photograph in my daughter’s room – but we got it all moved in last night – yea!!!

14 Day Walk With Christ

Every Easter my family does a “14 Day Walk With Christ”.  This takes place the 2 weeks leading up to Easter.  I feel like life is so busy and rushed, if I don’t make myself do this, Easter comes and goes and we haven’t focused on the importance of it.  Here’s how it works:
I created this “Walk with Jesus” board out of a cookie sheet.  I spray painted the cookie sheet white.  I added scrapbook paper and vinyl letters.  I put vinyl numbers on 14 plastic Easter eggs.  Then I hot glued magnets to the back of each egg.  I drilled holes in the top of the cookie sheet so I could loop ribbon through to hang it.

Each egg will contain a topic for that day that will help my family come closer to Christ in preparation for Easter.  After school, or that evening, we will have some kind of small lesson and activity about the day’s topic.  During every lesson, the children will recieve a handout to put in a little journal.  Then they will record their feelings that day.

My goal is at the end of the two weeks, they have a little journal about their thoughts and feelings of Jesus Christ.  On Easter morning, I am planning a sunrise hike to the top of the hill by hour house.  We will bring our journals and reflect on what we wrote during the two weeks then add a final entry as we share our feelings about Jesus Christ on Easter morning.
Who wants to join me?
Every morning during the 2 weeks leading up to Easter I will be posting the day’s topic and lesson outline with a printable handout.  I think this will be a great experience for our families!!

My Favorite Quilt

Welcome to Jedi Craft Girl!  Family Ever After is hosting SEW-VIVOR and I am so excited to submit this post as my entry.
I love sewing and quilting more than anything!!!  I have been sewing since I was in junior high when I learned to sew myself shorts.  I have been quilting for the past 14 years and I don’t even want to count how many quilts I’ve made.  It was hard to choose “my best work” to submit….kind of like choosing which child you love best 🙂  I decided on this quilt.  It hangs in my entry way and I see everyday.  It makes me feel happy.
The quilt measures 57″x73″.  The blocks are pieced and the flowers and leaves are machine appliqued.

I don’t own a long arm quilt machine, so the quilting was all done by me on my regular sewing machine.  This is about the largest size I will quilt at home.  It gets too bulky.
I was so happy with the quilting.  (It took 3 hours and my back hurt for 2 days.)  I did tight meanders on all the white fabric.  The blocks have flowers and loop-de-loos quilted on them.

The binding is hand-sewn.
A quilt on a windy day is so much fun!!

Here is where it lives most of the year.  It’s the first thing people see when they come in my home and it is a good representation of who I am.

“I cannot count my day complete, ’till fabric, thread, and needle meet”
