Merry and Bright Quilt Pattern

DSC_0695

I’m so happy to be releasing this pattern BEFORE Christmas!  I got home from Quilt Market in October and was completely inspired!  I had this idea to create a new Christmas quilt with lots of fun vintage colors.  I knew I wanted deer in the quilt.  I played around with some ideas and then created this!  I love that it is whimsical and vintage feeling.  It was fun to make a quilt with pinks, reds, greens, and aquas!  All my favorites!Merry and Bright Quilt Pattern PDF

The quilt measures 68″ x 77″ which means its a great throw quilt size!  I think I might hang mine 🙂

The pattern is a PDF download available in my Etsy shop.

The patterns is written in sections: the tree, the larges star, the deer blocks, the small sawtooth blocks, and the twirl star blocks.  This makes it easy to do a quilt along or work on sections.Merry and bright quilt pattern

The deer appliqué is done with Heat n Bond Lite and then a straight stitch around the deer.

The star blocks are fun because you can use fabrics from your stash and make it super scrappy!

The Merry and Bright letters I totally cheated!  It’s December after all – no time for tedious work!  I used Heat n Bond Ultra for the letters which is a little heavier and stiffer than the Lite.  Since the letters were thin I was willing to use the Ultra because that meant no sewing around each letter to secure!  The all over quilting helps the appliqué blend right into the quilt!  So if you’re afraid of letters don’t be!

Today I’m sharing the pattern for this festive little Very Merry Wall Quilt!  This is such a fun project to whip up!  You can use fat quarters or better yet – just get out the Christmas scrap box!  I appliqued a tree die cut with my Sizzix Fabi machine in the center of the quilt.  You can add your favorite motif to the center!  The quilt is made up of 4 blocks.  I created a PDF pattern that you can download HERE.  These would make great little gifts as well!

This is the state of affairs in my sewing room – projects everywhere and not enough time to get it all done by Christmas!!!

I love this fabric Little Joys designed by my friend Elea Lutz for Penny Rose Fabrics!!  Such a classic!!

A Merry Front Porch

Here is a peek at my Christmas-y front porch.  I made another burlap banner only aqua and red this time.  (click HERE for the tutorial).

I first put the word “Merry” on my door and it confused my entire family.  They kept waiting for the “Christmas” part of the saying to show up.  When I explained it was just “Merry” they seemed disappointed.  So, I added the “be” and now it reads “Be Merry”.  Confusion ended!

I love changing what I hang in this old window every season!
A fun little pillow made of different trims.

Christmas Quilts

I am updating this post several years later….I have had several pattern requests  for this “Be Merry” quilt.  I made this quilt before I began blogging and posting tutorials.  I have done some measuring and figuring and here are some of the measurements – I think you can take it from there 🙂  Again, I apologize!!

The quilt measures 42″ x 35.5″ finished – so a nice wall size.
The blocks are cut 6″
The scrappy strips are cut 2″ and pieced together randomly in all different lengths.
The white sashing is also cut 2″
There are plain 6″ white blocks where the trees go and then a white rectangle block where the words “Be Merry” go.  The font is called Candy Randy.  I hope this is helpful!!

Deco Foil Sizzix Snowflake Pillow

sizzix snowflake pillow

Merry Christmas!  I can’t believe how fast December flew by!  I still have a stack of projects I was hoping to get to!  There is still time to whip up this quick snowflake pillow before Christmas.   I used 3 different Sizzix snowflake dies and Deco Foil in Silver and Gold – just like the song!

deco foil snowflake sizzix pillowGather your supplies and let’s get started!

deco foil snowflake sizzix pillow 2The Hot Melt Sheets are what allow the Deco Foil to adhere to the fabric.  Cut the Hot Melt Sheets the size of the Siizix die.

Use only one layer of the Hot Melt Sheets at a time.  I tried cutting multiple and it cuts great but the hot melt sheets end up sticking together.

deco foil snowflake sizzix pillow 6Cut (2) squares the size of your pillow.  I always use 20″ pillow so I can swap pillow covers out in a jiffy.  I used a heavy natural muslin.  Mine is cut 20″ square.  Have your cat help you position the snowflakes randomly all over the pillow front.  You can also position in three rows for a linear look.  Once you have the snowflakes placed just so, press them into place using a medium-hot dry iron.  Let cool completely.

deco foil snowflake sizzix pillow 7Don’t peel the backing paper off all the snowflakes at once.  Begin in the center and peel off as you add foil to protect the adhesive from the iron.  Peel off the center snowflake’s paper and place a piece of Deco Foil over.  Place the pressing sheet (it comes with the Hot Melt Sheets) over the foil.  USING A MEDIUM HEAT DRY IRON press for about 20 seconds.  I found that if my iron was set on the cotton/linen setting it would scorch the foil.  If this is your first time, test this on a piece of scrap fabric to make sure it works.  Once you’ve pressed the foil let it cool completely.

IMG_3286Once the foil has cooled, gently peel away the foil sheet.  It will leave a perfect snowflake!  Continue this process.

deco foil snowflake sizzix pillow 8 Be mindful not to touch the iron to the completed snowflakes.

deco foil snowflake sizzix pillow 9They are so shiny and pretty!!  Once all the snowflakes are finished you can turn it into a pillow!  I always put a zipper in my pillow back.  I also added some decorative fringe.  For more instructions on how to finish the pillow, you can check out this tutorial.

Noel Mini Quilt

Hello, my name is Amanda and I am addicted to gingerbread cookies and Christmas sewing!  I love this time of year!!!  It’s so happy and magical and joyful!  I can’t stop listening to Christmas music, baking cookies, or sewing with this Little Joys Fabric from Penny Rose!  I created this little quilt pattern using Therm o Web’s EZ print sheets.  All you have to do is print the applique pieces from your computer and you’re already on your way to making this quilt!  noel quilt 3

Mufasa was very helpful in the creation of this quilt as you can see.noel quilt 4The pattern is over on the Therm O Web blog today!  Hop on over to download the pattern and get the cutting instructions!!

noel quilt 5This quilt is perfect to hang on a wall, put on a table, or give as a gift to someone special.

noel quilt 13Because most of this quilt is applique, I didn’t want the applique pieces to puff out from the quilt so I quilted over the entire top.

Elf Sing-A-Long

This morning Richie was tucked in the piano with a note that said, “Let’s have a Sing-A-Long!”.  He also left a special “Elf” microphone called Merry Okaee.  It plays christmas songs and when you sing along your voice sounds like an elf!  It’s super fun especialy when you get to wake up to it!!
