Baby Owl Birthday Favors

We made these little owls for my daughter to bring to her preschool class on her birthday.  Remember when we were little and our mothers would bake cupcakes and bring them to school on our birthday?  Not any more – we can’t bring any treats – even if they are store-bought.  We wanted to bring something cute and fun and that most likely wouldn’t get thrown away.

We love these little hooties!  Each one is just a little bit different.

As she handed them to the children, they were so excited to bring home a new friend!!  (they would also make cute valentines!)

Thankful Owl Pillow

I can’t believe it is November!  I made this cute owl pillow out of a dish towel from Joann’s – 70% off!
I love the fall owls – but the fabric was canvas-like – not good for doing dishes…. better for a pillow!  I cut a piece of burlap and cut the word “Thankful” on the Cricut in vinyl.

I removed the letters, leaving the background for the stencil.  Then I stenciled black paint & removed the vinyl when it was dry.

I love stenciling on burlap!!  It is so fun & easy!

I cut the dish towel into a 17″ square (it will fit at 16″ pillow form).  I top-stitched the burlap piece in place.  Then just sewed the pillow.  I added some trim in the seam.

Baby Taggie Owl Quilt

I just made this baby quilt for a friend.  It’s a new pattern I found.  Each of the owl blocks has “taggies” sewn into the seams – little loops of ribbon or ric rac for baby to play with.  This is my new favorite baby quilt!!!  I also love the teal, orange and green in this quilt – super cute!

Here you can see the ribbon loops

Sally picked out a toy for the new mom.  I looped some plastic baby rings into the ribbons and now you can attach toys.  You can also use the loops to attach it to a stroller or car seat so it doesn’t fall down.  The possibilities are endless!  There is flannel on the back so it’s really soft.

The new mommy-to-be loved her quilt!

Square In a Square Baby Quilt Tutorial

Here is a fun quilt tutorial I came up with.  I made this for a friend who is having a baby boy.
What you Need:
(28) 6 inch squares of theme fabrics
(8) 2-inch WOF strips – (mine are cream with brown circles) for outside of blocks
(4) 3-inch WOF strips of center block fabric (mine are all different)
Fabric for binding and back
Here’s what you do: (Make sure to use 1/4″ seam allowances and press after each step)
Sew 4 strip sets of (2) 2-inch strips with the 3-inch strip in the center

Chop the strip up into 3-inch increments

This makes a 6-inch block.  You need 28 of them.

Lay out your pattern – Mine measures 7 blocks across and 8 blocks down.

Sew the blocks together in rows.  Sew the rows together.  Make sure to press seams going opposite direction so they line up.  Quilt as desired

Girl’s Camp

I had a lot of fun getting ready for Girl’s Camp.  I made these little first-aid zipper pouches for the girls to put their first-aid kits.

I made these bookmarks for them to have during their scripture reading each day.

Arise and Shine laynards.  To make the lanyard, I just used 2 1/2″ strip of fabric.  Press it in half then press the sides in & fold over (like double fold bias tape.)  Top stitch and put a clasp on the end.  They were fun to make!

I made little “hooties” for each of the girls.  They were part of a devotional about being a daughter of God.  Every owl is different, just like each of the girls.  They also have a sunshine on their tummy because they are letting their light shine!

The girls LOVED their owls!  They were so cute when they were choosing the one they wanted.  They slept with them and kept them on their beds.  During the week everyone would write little notes and tuck them into the owls wings.

“Got my Shiny On” bottlecap necklaces

On of our girls had her birthday at camp.  I made this little birthday badge for her to wear all day so everyone would say happy birthday to her!

I made these flower headbands for the girls.  It looked cute when we all had them in our hair.

There were a few other things I made that I forgot to take pictures of.  Each day we gave the girls candy in their mail boxes: DOTS disciples of the Savior, You’re a Sweet Heart sweetarts, and Saver Life Life Savers.

My Favorite Wall Hanging

I love my Whooo La La wall-hanging.  I was inspired by the Michael Miller fabrics and these quirky little hooties.  It’s also a lot of fun to say “Whoooooo La La”!!!!  The applique is done on the machine as well as the quilting.  I have it hanging in my upstairs hallway and when I walk by it makes me smile.  That’s what a quilt should do right?  Make you smile!!  I am entering it in the Blogger’s Quilt Festival over at Amy’s Creative Side.  There are so many amazing quilts entered!

I Love Hobby Lobby!

A few weeks ago I went to my sisters house for a weekend. In three days we went to Hobby Lobby 5 times! I don’t live any where near a Hobby Lobby sadly. I found this fun iron owl bell in the metal department. It was $10 and then half price!!! Love that! The bell was a dark brown color so I spray painted it bright red and hung it in the kitchen. I now have a bell to ring when it is meal time instead of yelling for everyone! My kids said, “Why didn’t you hang it lower!” I can only imagine life with three kids ringing this loud bell all day!!!!

Little Girl Birthday Gift

My daughter made this darling owl cross stitch and we sewed it into a bookmark. (I made 5 of these book marks for book club as gifts.) The elastic goes around the book, then attaches to the button so the bookmark never falls out!

Then we made a cute cross-body purse out of matching fabric. These are my favorite to make. I’ve got to make me one 🙂
