I know pineapples are super trendy right now, but I do have a little family history that involves pineapples….want to hear it?  My Dad’s ancestors left Portugal and Brazil and immigrated to what is now Hawaii to work the pineapple plantations.  I often imagine how bad life must have been to want to live in a shack and pick pineapples everyday.  My Grandma was raised in Hawaii as a result and as a child I remember her always wearing a muumuu…… and so pineapples are close to my heart.IMG_7953a

The finished quilt measures 40″ x 48″ and the finished block measures 8″ x 14″.

Amber and I got to met up a few weeks ago at Pine Needles Quilt Shop in Utah.  We had so much fun shopping for fabric!  We choose the next few months of patterns worth!  Whooo Hooo!
IMG_1439

We both fell in love with these fabrics from Charleston and Les Petites by Amy Sinibaldi for Art Gallery Fabrics, so this month both of our quilts are the same.

The blocks are so fun to sew and come together pretty fast.  Mufasa loves to be a Happy Helper 🙂IMG_1453

It was fun playing with different color combinations.  The quilt is set on point so the blocks look like flowers.  You can download the free pattern over on Amber’s blog so hop over to read all about it!  – we hope you love it!!!

Screen Shot 2017-03-30 at 12.33.46 PMGarden Path uses 5″ squares alternating with background squares and 9-patch blocks.  I choose a selection of Cotton + Steel fabrics from Fat Quarter Shop
and I love the fun spring vibe they have.  I wish I could leave this quilt outside because it perks up the yard!!  It measures 50″ square.  It’s a perfect size for a baby/toddler quilt, for hanging on the wall, for throwing over a couch, or for putting on the end of a bed!IMG_7833a

Amber’s version uses a selection of Cotton + Steel blues from Fat Quarter Shop – I’m so in love with it!!  Hop over to her blog to read all about her version!  Amber’s borders are slightly different and we’ve given you both options 🙂

You can download our pattern by clicking HERE and download the alternate border pattern by clicking HERE.   And then you’re invited to come over for a garden tea party!!!

5 fat quarter fun logoIMG_7725a

Welcome to the 4th edition of the Five Fat Quarter Fun Sewing Series!!  Amber and I have teamed up to bring you a super fun quilt that you can make with only 5 fat quarters and some additional background yardage!  This month we are focusing on theme prints.  This quilt pattern is great to use with large prints and puts them as the focus of the quilt.

DSC_0262

We each choose a collection of 5 fat quarters from one of Blend Fabrics’ current lines.  Amber used Flutter & Float FullSizeRender-2

and I used Born Wild.

FullSizeRender

The finished quilt is approximately 62″ x 70″.  I put flannel on the back of mine and it’s the perfect lap quilt!!!

Amber and I are SUPER EXCITED to bring you our 3rd 5 Fat Quarter Fun Quilt – and this one is our Valentine’s edition!!!!  We can’t get enough of red and pink and hearts so we pushed the limits on our 5 fat quarters and came up with this!!!!  It’s a 50″ square quilt with an Irish Chain style and pieced hearts in the center.  And of course we were listening to Erasure the whole time we were sewing!!! hahahah 🙂

Here is Amber’s version, you can read all about it on her blog.  I love her Moda fabric choice!!!

I am so thrilled to have a new quilt to hang in the family room!  And it fits perfectly!!!

Fabric Requirements

2 red fat quarters (non directional)

3 pink fat quarters (non directional)

2 yards background fabric

3 ½ yards backing fabric

½ yard binding fabric

(4) Additional red 2 ½” squares for sashing – can cut from your binding fabric if it matches

NOTE:  Make sure your fat quarter measure 21″ in length.  You need every inch possible out of the fat quarters and they have to be cut a certain way.

So be sure to read all instructions first.  Don’t square up the fat quarters and only cut one at a time.

You can download the pattern HERE.

five fat quarter fun quilt

We are super excited to bring you the second edition of 5 Fat Quarter Fun!!!  Amber from Gigi’s Thimble and I have been cooped up all January – she lives in the snow and it’s been raining every day here in Southern California!  This quilt is the perfect quilt to snuggle with on the couch while you watch the winter weather.  And best of all…..you only need 5 fat quarters and background yardage to get started!!DSC_0930 2

I love how Amber and I used the exact same pattern and our quilts have totally different looks!  So fun!!!

I choose a mixture of wintery grays.  My living room and dining room are decorated farmhouse neutral and all my quilts are bright colors – which means I have zero quilts in my living room (gasp).  This quilt is going to look perfect on my couch with my fur pillows and galvanized buckets!!!  I can’t sew fast enough!

DSC_0905

IMG_8747

This is such a fun block!  It looks more complicated than it really is!  You can sew them up in a snap!IMG_8748

After you sew the 12 blocks you are ready for sashing!!IMG_8751

Now I wish I had a table runner to match!!!IMG_8778

I quilted this myself – which is never my favorite but I did it!  I chose a black and gray plaid flannel for the back and quilted meandering lines all over.
IMG_8787

I stayed up late with my little helper binding because I am super exited to get it finished!!!!

I LOVE how it looks in my living room!  I don’t think I need tons of neutral quilts in my life but this one is a perfect fit!!

Mufasa loves it too!!!
