Purfect Day

Did you know I love cat fabric? hahaha! When I see a new cat fabric I MUST have it! So of course when Riley Blake Designs released Perfect Day I knew it was for me!!!

I love the color palate of this line – soft aqua, pink and greens with gray. You could totally make this a little boy quilt and omit the pink or make it a little girl quilt and keep the pink! Or you could just make something for yourself like I did!!!

I thought it would be fun to make something from my book Playful Precut Quilts and use the mix and match suggestion! So I did!

I choose these 3 blocks:

Colonial Flowers

Garden Cat

Sunday Drive

I wanted blocks that would require no sashing. The cats have a border built into the block which is great to add some space to the quilt.

Here is the design I came up with! I added a small inner border and then a checkerboard border made with 2 .5″ squares that finish 2″.

Isn’t it funny how changing fabric can totally change the look of a block or quilt! I loved using a dark background on this quilt. The colors were so soft that I didn’t want them lost in a white background. I think it works!!

Playful Precut Quilts Blog Tour

The Playful Precut Quilts Blog Tour starts today!! For the next month a team of amazing quilt designers will be putting their spin on one of the quilts from my new book!

I love all the patterns in Playful Precut Quilts! I thought I would kick things off by showing what you can do by combining 2 quilt blocks from the book.

One of my favorite things about Playful Precut Quilts is that you can interchange the blocks because they are all 12″. This gives you so many ways to be creative!

I used the Gingham Patches Block and the Vintage Treasures Star Block to create this festive Christmas quilt.

The fabrics are from A Festive Collection by Liberty Fabrics for Riley Blake Designs. The background fabric is dark gray linen by Riley Blake Designs. I love dark backgrounds!

I love that this combination of blocks requires NO SASHING!!! The star block already has space around it to give the quilt the look of sashing – only without all the fuss! So once the blocks are done you sew them together! You can totally make this in a weekend.

It’s time to get a jump on holiday sewing! I hope you love this quilt 🙂

Make sure to stop stop by each of my friends’ blogs to see what they’ve created! It’s going to be so fun!!!

Scrappy Hearts Quilt

There is something about a dark background that can totally change the look of a quilt. I am super in love with this Scrappy Hearts quilt from my book Playful Precut Quilts.

I love the fun colors combined with the Moda cross weave background fabric. And what I love even more is this quilt is made with 5″ precut squares!! Which also means you can totally turn this into a scrappy quilt!!!

I have it hanging in my hallway with this bench in front of it. Mufasa loves to sit there so I snapped a few photos of him.

He is so good at posing for the camera – he’s a professional what can I say 🙂

Conservatory Quilt

In my book Playful Precut Quilts I designed 12 quilts that each use 12″ blocks. The idea is that you can interchange the block or mix and match the blocks depending on what YOU want to make!

I wrote a pattern for a 4 block quilt and have instructions on how to finish it using this border treatment.

I recently made a new version of this quilt using Conservatory by Riley Blake Designs.

I LOVE how it turned out!

I used the Cozy Farmhouse block to make this quilt. Mufasa totally approves!

Newport Beach Quilt

I designed Newport Beach for my book Playful Precut Quilts. I love Newport Beach and this quilt was inspired by the blue sky, the white boats, the red flags, and blue ocean. It’s my happy place!

I recently received my quilts back from C&T Publishing and I was so excited to snap a few photos of this quilt actually at Newport Beach!
