A Circus Theamed Baby Shower

My friend, Mary, is having her first baby – we threw her a “Circus” baby shower last night.

I made Mary this cute polka dot quilt – I didn’t want to cut the fabric up, so I just quilted it. On the back is blue polka dot flannel – it’s like a receiving blanket quilt! It matched the “Circus” theme shower so cute!
We had popcorn, darling mini cupcakes,
Cotton Candy,
and caramel apples that you top yourself (nuts, chocolate chips, toffee & sprinkles)

Then we played a few circus inspired games and opened gifts. It was super fun!

2 New Quilts

I used the scraps from the “I’m Blushing” quilt and made this smaller quilt to hang over my piano.

I’ve been spring cleaning – I hung a new quilt over my mantle and changed a few things around. Yes, it is an owl quilt 🙂 Now I just need darling husband to rip out the ugly marble on the fireplace!!

Spring Quilt Finished!

My mother-in-law was here for a week and we launched into sewing this quilt from the Moda Bakeshop website. It turned out super cute!

The quilt was hard to machine quilt on a regular machine. I went through 7 bobbin-fulls of thread!!

Trying to pin it took up my entire family room floor. The quilt measures 57″x63″

Why I Sew

The other day, as I was cutting out my millionth valentine/owl quilt, I was wondering if I was wasting my time – I don’t really need another quilt in my house!! Later that evening I found an answer to my question as I watched Ella gather my remaining scraps and lay them out to make a little pattern. Then, she sewed the pieces together to make a darling mini quilt top. I showed her how to pin baste and then we taped lines to guide her quilting. This was her first time machine quilting and she did the whole project by herself – no help! Then, we cut out the binding and she sewed it on and now she is hand sewing the binging down. THAT is why I sew!! I am so proud of my little sewer girl Ella!!

Sally is next, she already knows how to use pins, she can tangle thread all around the house, she loves buttons, and she thinks she is really sewing when she sits at the machine!

Baby Quilts Finished

Lots of my friends are having babies – and they all need quilts! This first one is peachy pink, sage and brown – so yummy!

This quilt is made from peach-pink, celery and chocolate brown. The back is a dusty flannel with flowers quilted in the center squares.

Christmas Quilts

I am updating this post several years later….I have had several pattern requests  for this “Be Merry” quilt.  I made this quilt before I began blogging and posting tutorials.  I have done some measuring and figuring and here are some of the measurements – I think you can take it from there 🙂  Again, I apologize!!

The quilt measures 42″ x 35.5″ finished – so a nice wall size.
The blocks are cut 6″
The scrappy strips are cut 2″ and pieced together randomly in all different lengths.
The white sashing is also cut 2″
There are plain 6″ white blocks where the trees go and then a white rectangle block where the words “Be Merry” go.  The font is called Candy Randy.  I hope this is helpful!!
